We had a great 2017 here at Custom Spaces. As the year drew to a close we were busy installing some sweet staircases for our awesome clients. Here’s some of our latest creations, nothing excites us more than a custom stair that can take any space to the next level. Physically connecting one level of a home to another, inside and out.
The aesthetic of a well-built stair, made of amazing materials – is so inspiring to us. We love what we do, so our team creatively collaborates on each and every installation.
SOME TIPS FOR CHOOSING THE RIGHT STAIRS
Before deciding on what stair is right for your space, consider the following:
Is it a main thoroughfare?
Do you want to create visual impact with the stair as you walk through the front door?
What aesthetic do you want to achieve?
If it’s a renovation, do you need the stair relocated to improve the flow of the house?
Decide on a budget

STRAIGHT STAIRS
A straight stair doesn’t need to be dull, you can modernise them with timber you choose, tiles, handrails or carpet.
SPIRAL & HELICAL STAIRCASES
A bit trickier, but if you have the space these stairs are show stoppers.
CARPETED STAIRS
One of the main considerations for carpet stairs is the choice of carpet. It needs to be hard wearing and avoid loop-pile carpets can be more slippery. Usually we use MDF to build the base for these stairs.
CANTILEVERED STAIRS
An amazing engineering feat where all the weight of the stair is supported by one wall. To comply with regulations, you will need a balustrade, glass is the most unobtrusive option to still give the ‘weightlessness’ look.

I always use this time of year for reflection on the year before. Looking back at how much we’ve achieved as a team is a fantastic way to learn and grow. We feel very lucky to have the chance to work and live in one of the most incredible locations in the world – Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
